State to sell or lease Jovanka Broz's mansion

The state cannot set aside EUR 2.5 million for the renovation of the mansion in Dedinje where Jovanka Broz used to live, which is why this mansion will soon either be put up for sale or leased to someone who wants to invest in its renovation, the director of the Property Directorate of the Republic of Serbia, Jovan Vorkapic, stated for Novosti.

– Someone might rent the mansion for a longer period of time, justifying that amount of investments, and also have the investment deducted from the rent, up to the half of the value of the property – Vorkapic stated for today's issue of Novosti.

He said that the state, being the owner, is free to do with the mansion at 75 Kneza Aleksandra Karadjordjevica Blvd what it deems most cost-effective.

There are several countries looking for precisely such facilities for the needs of their diplomatic-consular representations, whether to rent or to buy them, he said.

The former home of Jovanka Broz is the responsibility of the Administration for Joint Services of the Republic Bodies, which takes care of current maintenance and physical and technical security, Novosti reports.

The house was locked, as they say, from Jovanka Broz's death in 2013 until 2018, during the period of the probate proceedings.

The daily writes that her personal belongings – jewelry, clothes, photographs, oil paintings, as well as state furniture and artworks – are stored elsewhere in order to prevent their deterioration.

The 750-m2 house, located across from the White Palace, is in a very bad condition, the newspaper writes.
