Revitalization of Hydroelectric power plant "Đerdap" starts on September 1st

Revitalization of Hydroelectric power plant "Đerdap" will start in September 2009 and it will last until year 2015 - Dragomir Marković, the Director General of the Electric Power Company of Serbia, said yesterday (March 19, 2009), after he signed the supplement to the contract between EPS and Russian company "Silovye machini".

Total value of the works on Serbian side of Hydroelectric power plant "Đerdap 1" amounts to about 168m USD, while the Russians will carry out the works worth 139.8m USD. About 28m USD worth of works will be carried out by "Đerdap" itself.

It was agreed that the funds should be provided from two sources. Total of 100.5m USD will be set aside from the clearing debt of former SSSR to SFRY, in accordance with the International Agreement that was signed between Serbia and Russia on April 27, 2007, while the remaining 67.2m USD will be provided by EPS.

- Revitalization works will be first carried out on the sixth generator in "Đerdap 1" on September 1st, and each of six generators will be revitalized and their maximum power will be increased from 174 to 201 MW – people in EPS explained. – The life of the hydroelectric power plant, which is in operation for 37 years, will be extended for, at least, 30 years, while the installed power, which now amounts to 1,140 MW, will be increased by 10%.
