How does the body recover from alcohol?

While the short-term effect of consuming larger quantities of alcohol may amount to morning headache, nausea and dry mouth, the long-term effect may impact the proper functioning of the whole body.

People who consume too much alcohol are more likely to have indigestion problems, gastritis and liver damage.

Chronic alcohol consumption can lead to hypertension, tingling hands and feet, anxiety and impairment of working memory. People who are trying to lose weight forget that alcoholic beverages and energy drinks have the caloric value of food and the excess amount of energy turns into fat.

Here's what happens in the body after alcohol consumption:

After an hour

The body start detoxification process in order to cleanse the bloodstream and prevent poisoning. In a span of an hour the body can process only a certain amount of alcohol, usually a standard drink.

After 12 to 24 fours

The detox is complete and blood sugar levels are stabilized. The exact completion time depends on the amount of alcohol that was consumed.

After 72 hours

In this phase all the leftover hangover symptoms are gone. The sleep quality is improving which is crucial in revitalizing of the body.

After a week

Sleep quality is better on the whole, the skin is softer, eczema and skin redness, which flared up due to the alcohol in the ,are gone. The overall mood, mental capacity and concentration are improving.

After a month

After this period, people who used to regularly ingest alcohol may notice weight loss. Fat content in the liver is decreased by 30% ,while the skin, hair and nails are visibly healthier.

After a year

During this phase the expected weight loss is 6 kilograms on the average. In addition, 12 months without alcohol may reduce the risk from breast and liver cancer.
