Increase in prices of drugs by up to 11% - Government adopted new prices

The Government of Serbia has decided that the prices of drugs will be increased by average of 11.67%. Because of the harmonization with the exchange rate of Euro, the prices of all drugs (both domestic and imported) in our market will be increased by that percentage.

The reason for the correction of prices is drop in the value of Dinar against Euro in the previous period. Aforementioned measure was necessary in order to enable regular supply of drugs to the market.

New price lists will be introduced in pharmacies in about 10 days. In the meantime, before their application starts, the inventory of all drugs on stocks must be made.

- That is a responsible action and the only solution to the problem of lack of imported drugs. However, harmonization of prices should have taken place before because the pharmaceutical industry had huge daily losses due to the exchange rate of Euro – says Dr Dragomir Marisavljević, the President of the Group of Drug Manufacturers.

The increase in prices of drugs will be first felt by the citizens who buy medicaments from the so-called negative list.

- We will have to set aside more money for drugs, but this increase in price has already been included in the financial plan. We are still within that framework – says Svetlana Vukajlović, the CEO of the Republic Medical Insurance Institute, and adds that the increase in prices is not going to affect the citizens who use the drugs from the positive list.

Namely, by the decision of the Government, the highest price of drug is determined, and the manufacturer can sell that drug to the Republic Medical Insurance Institute (RZZO) at lower price. Following this Government’s decision, the manufacturers and RZZO should start negotiations and determine retail price for each of the drugs from the positive list.

By the way, the prices of drugs in Serbia are brought in accord with the prices in Italy, Croatia and Slovenia.
