Green Labyrinth of 3.5 km in Batocina – Unique landscape architecture feature in Sumadija

The Green Labyrinth in Batocina is a unique endeavor when it comes to landscape architecture in Sumadija. According to the founder and the man behind this idea, Goran Srejic of Kragujevac, this is the biggest green oasis in Europe. The path from the entrance to the exit is 3.5 kilometers long. The labyrinth takes up over a hectare and each of the several thousand plants is equipped by a drip irrigation system, Poljoprivrednik reports.

– The plan was designed by a friend of mine. I saw something similar in London and decided to invest the money in this landscape architecture attraction the kind of which doesn’t exist anywhere else in Serbia. These are rare in Europe too. Children need 30 to 45 minutes to find their way through, and adults usually reach the exit in three to four hours – Srejic says.

The labyrinth is designed so that pathways and directions can be moved around. The walls made of plants are thick and will be up to 2.5-m tall. Goran expects the labyrinth and all the other accompanying features to be completed by 2020, Poljoprivrednik writes.

There will be a panel after each 100 meters so that visitors could orient themselves. The plan also includes four bridges from which one will be able to see which direction to go in. In line with the rules of landscape architecture, the pathways should be around a meter wide, and the plants should not have thorns, so that visitors would be as safe as possible. Evergreen plants are recommended, but deciduous ones are an option too.
