(Naša radnja) Mercedes – HUNDREDTH ANNIVERSARY OF THREE-BRANCH STAR

In the 1880’s, Gotlib Daimler (1834-1900) and Karl Benz (1844-1929) invented automobiles powered by engines with internal combustion. Daimler worked in Kanstat near Stuttgart, while Benz had its workshop in Manheim. There is no record of their acquaintance.
Name ‘Mercedes’ originates from year 1900 when Austrian-Hungarian diplomat and automobile salesman Emil Jelinek ordered 36 automobiles from Daimler’s company at the price of 550,000 DEM, and he asked that they be named after his daughter Mercedes Jelinek.
Name ‘Mercedes’ was protected in 1902 as the name of trademark, while the three-branch star, which symbolizes Daimler’s idea to produce vehicles for earth, air and water transportation, was introduced in 1909 as a trademark. Starting from 1910, that trademark was on all of the company’s products.
Merger of Daimler’s company and Benz’s company took place in 1926 (which was illustrated by the poster that was drawn that year) and the new company was named "Daimler-Benz AG", which was later turned into today’s "Mercedes-Benz".
