The director of AHV, Zoran Atanasov, told the press that a rice variety had been produced from genetically modified seeds and that on-the-ground control was ongoing.
– We have some findings about which variety it is and a list of persons it can be found at. A list has been formed of potential 30 producers. The teams are in the field once again today – Atanasov said.
According to him, the control is stricter not just in the country, but also at border crossings when the grain is being imported, and the control of the this year's entire harvest of rice in Macedonia is also being prepared.
AHV announced an increased control of the presence of GMO in food on August 9.
The increased control, Atanasov said at the time, is due to the discovery of 550 kilograms of GMO rice produced in Kocani from imported seeds and the presence of GMO in soy products imported from Serbia.
