The bankruptcy supervisor of Polzela, Zlatko Hohnjec, has not found a purchaser for the sock plant as a business unit, so now he is offering the Polzela trademark and finished product stock.

At an auction scheduled for September 20, the Polzela brand and the finished products will be offered at an initial price of around EUR 389,000, TV Slovenia announced.

The production at the Polzela sock plant stopped on July 20. In late June, there were 77 production workers employed, and in August, after the production had stopped, only 31 workers remained. This number will continue to decrease in the upcoming months.

Due to the gradual reduction of its retail network, the bankruptcy supervisor has closed three stores in Murska Subota, Maribor and Celje. The remaining six stores throughout Slovenia, including those in Celje and Maribor, will be closed in the upcoming months.

For years, Polzela has been an issue on which to score cheap political points, although it was clear back in 2015 that the company had no future in the market. Many believe that such a sad ending should have been avoided, as there is still demand for Polzela socks in the markets of the former Yugoslav states, and their own retail network is successful and could continue operating.
