– This is a somewhat expected situation and it pertains to the appearance of fungus in peaches, that is, nectarines, due to the high amounts of humidity in the fruit – Nedimovic told Tanjug.
He explained that these types of fruit, as well as raspberry and blackberry, are the most susceptible to spoiling due to rains, and he also says that nature sometimes can't be beat. He also notes that the transport of nectarines to the cooling plants further contributes to the risk.
– We are in constant communication with our Russian colleagues, as always, and everything will be all right in the medium term. So far, we have exported around 90% of this type of fruit and we expect the export to continue upon the completion of the analyses of all the shipments in question and after they are put under control – Nedimovic said.
The media report that Russia plans to place a temporary ban on the import of this type of fruit from August 15, primarily apricots and peaches from Serbia, the Russian phytosanitary supervision authority Rosselkhoznadzor announced.
