Uncertain completion of "Banatski Dvor" – gas storage in 2010

- Construction of the underground gas storage in Banatski Dvor can not be completed this year – said Vojislav Vuletić, the Secretary General of the Gas Association of Serbia.

He told Beta agency that it was possible that the gas storage would be finished in 2010.

- As soon as we have learned if the compressors and installations for the second phase are ordered and whether the preparations for underground installations are finished, we will be able to say exactly when the gas storage will be completed - said Vuletić.

According to his words, only the first phase of gas storage Banatski Dvor is completed, and the current gas supply capacity is 500,000 cubic meters per day, which is enough to satisfy only 5% of the overall daily needs of Serbia.

Vuletić added that the final capacity of the underground gas storage was 800m cubic meters of gas, which means that the daily delivery of gas from that storage should amount to 5m cubic meters.

- In order to make that possible, the second and the third phase should be finished and the new compressors should be installed. These compressors will be bought once the funds are provided and the order is made, and the delivery period ranges between 12 and 24 months – Vuletić explained.

He pointed out that even if the gas storage was completed by the end of the year, it could not be used because gas was to be stored during summer.

According to the words of Vuletić, Serbia should keep renting other gas storages until the gas storage in Banatski Dvor is completed in order to provide sufficient quantity of that fuel for winter.

Vuletić reminded that Serbia had only one gas entrance near Horgoš, and he estimated that the construction of gas pipeline Južni Tok could resolve all problems with gas supply.
