Another 68 medicines included on reimbursement list

The Government of Serbia has adopted a new reimbursement list of medical drugs, on which 68 products have been were put, said the acting director of the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF), Sanja Radojevic Skodric.

She explained for the August 10 issue of Politika that the inclusion of new medical drugs on the list led to the lowering of the prices of the so-called parallel medicaments, as well as increased competition among various producers, and with that a more secure supply of health institutions.

The list includes medicines for high blood pressure, hormonal disorders, endocrinology and malignant diseases, the daily writes.

– There will be several suppliers for a single medicine, and everyone knows that more competition means lower prices – Radojevic Skodric adds.

She reveals that, in line with the decision of the Central Commission for Medicines, they will consider the possibility of providing insured people suffering from multiple sclerosis and psoriasis with an innovative therapy, with costs handled by the mandatory health insurance, as a priority.

– We expect these medicines to be included in September or October, and medicaments for the treatment of said diseases have been shortlisted. At the same time, we will consider including another modern therapy for those suffering from the most dangerous form of skin cancer – melanoma – Radojevic Skodric added.

The good news is also that some health institutions have reduced their waiting lists for certain medical procedures. The implementation of new software has shown that the lists were bloated, that is, that certain names appeared several times, as did the names of deceased persons, patients registered at several hospitals...

Still, the lists for cardio surgery and orthopedic interventions are still the longest ones, as are those for cataract surgery.

The plan is to have unified waiting lists for each region, so that patients would not have to wait so long and travel to remote cities. These regional waiting lists are expected to be implemented in late 2018.
