Zastava Kovacnica a.d. expects to receive around EUR 3 million in state subsidies by the end of the year for the implementation of the first robotized line which would produce components for the arms industry.

– We expect 2 to 3 million euros from the government for the commissioning of the robotized line, which could secure us a EUR 4 million job. That should be our Profit Center – the director of Zastava Kovacnica, Milan Kostic, told Beta.

Another 12 young workers will be needed to operate the new line, and four experienced workers, of the 173 already employed at the factory, will also be engaged on it.

Zastava Kovacnica produces forgings, and 50% of the production is exported for the automotive industry and the production of trucks.

– We are in great demand with foreign purchasers, especially in Austria and Germany. Our best reference is quality, as complaints regarding our products are below 1% – Kostic said.

He expects a job worth EUR 1.5 million annually to be signed with an Austrian partner soon.

Zastava Kovacnica is the biggest and oldest forgings plant in the Balkans. In the past years, it has experienced an unsuccessful privatization and bankruptcy proceedings. The recovery started last year, when it was bought out of bankruptcy by Zastava Oruzje Kragujevac.
