– Everything that the City of Belgrade has invested in decorative lighting in the past years, along with fireworks and concerts, has paid off multiple times through tourism revenues, as Belgrade has become one of the most popular European travel destinations, especially in the period of Christmas and New Year – Goran Vesic said.

The deputy mayor said that, in the past four years, the City of Belgrade had installed decorative lighting on 54 buildings, cultural monuments, and that the plan was for another 20 locations in the city’s center to get decorative lighting in 2018, including, the plaza in front of the Church of Saint Sava, Slavija, Tasmajdan, Skadarlija, the Pioneers’ Park and the Academic Park, Kalemegdan, the Albania building, the Flower Square and others.

Vesic especially emphasized that the centers of seven urban municipalities would get decorative lighting for the first time.

– With this tender, we want to provide lighting, which will decorate city parks and locations visited by tourists, and we want two locations to be decorated for children and to be meant for them – Vesic said.

The deputy mayor said that many European cities invested a lot in decorative lighting and development, as that makes them more attractive to tourists. He pointed out that Zagreb, with 790 thousand residents, had set aside EUR 5.5 million for this purpose for 2018. Budapest, close to Belgrade in size, has set aside over two million euros, Stockholm, which has half the number of citizens Belgrade has, is setting aside EUR 3.5 million, and Moscow, with 11.5 million citizens, has a budget of EUR 95 million for decorative lighting in 2018, Beoinfo says in the press release.
