World Bank approved use of 43m USD for environment protection and stimulus to employment in Bor


The World Bank announced on February 20th that
the loan of 43m USD for environment protection and stimulus to employment in
Bor can be used for resolving of major number of environmental problems in that
municipality.
Nikola Ile, a representative of the World Bank, said in Bor that that financial
institution had approved the loan of 33m USD to Serbia for resolving of
environmental problems caused by the work of Mining-Smelter Basin (RTB) Bor, and
the loan of 10m USD as the stimulus to employment.
These 43m USD will be used within the scope of project “Regional Development of
Bor”.
According to the words of Ile, it is estimated that cultivation of barren land,
refurbishment of units of RTB Bor, relocation of dam in the vicinity of Veliki
Krivelj mine, prevention of pollution of water from the potential ore deposits
and construction of access road to city dump will cost 31m USD.
- According to the plan, realization of the project for regional development of
Bor should be finished in five years, and the World Bank will monitor the whole
process of realization in order to prevent every potential misuse of tenders
and procurements – said Ile.
He pointed out that the system of public procurements and tenders would be carried out by the procedure of the World Bank, and that the method of procurement used by Serbia and the Law on public procurements would not be applied to that procedure.
The repayment period for 10m USD is 20 years, with the grace period of 10 years and the interest rate of 0.75%, while the repayment period for 33m USD is 17 years, with the grace period of five years.
