Company "Holcim Srbija" has announced that it produced 920,000 tons of cement and registered incomes worth 70m EUR (10.5m EUR worth of profit) in 2008.
- Our plan is to maintain the current level of production and sales and the same market position as in 2008 - the Director General of that company, Gustavo Navarro, told Beta agency and announced the investment of 4m EUR in the wastewater treatment system by the end of year 2009.
As he explained, "Holcim Srbija", which has cement factory in Novi Popovac and concrete factory in Krnjača, "does not expect its business results to drop in 2009, so that the reduction of production capacities is not an option", and neither is cutting of the number of workers (460 of them).
Navarro said that some forms of saving will be applied to certain ongoing projects, and every possible investment will be analyzed in order for the available funds to be invested as efficiently as possible.
According to his words, in spite of the global financial crisis that exerts direct influence on the building industry in Serbia, as well as on cement production, "Serbia remains one of the most attractive real estate markets in Europe where demand is significantly greater than supply".
Navarro added that that was the reason why "Holcim" was an optimist when it comes to the potentials of local market.
