Company "Gumel from Hajdukovo
presented products from buffalo, donkey and ostrich meat and meat products of native
pig breed ‘Mangulica’ (50 - 75% less cholesterol compared to other breeds) at "Brand
Fair 2009" in Belgrade.
The CEO of "Gumel", Peter Guljaš, explained that he had a farm with
600 ‘Mangulica’ pigs in village of Šupljak near Palić, and that it existed for
six years. ‘Mangulica’s’ meat contains less fat and cholesterol than meat from
other pig breeds.
- We offer products made of Mangulica’s meat, without preservatives and other additives, prepared in the traditional way - he pointed out and drew attention to the recently opened retail facility in New Belgrade, in addition to existing ones in Subotica and Palić.
Besides, the first ostrich farm in Serbia was formed in 1992 at "Guljaš” farm, and it is still in operation. This farm used to have between 400 and 500 ostriches, but their number has now dropped to about 60 – said Guljaš and pointed out that the production and processing of that type of meat in Serbia had not been regulated by the Law yet, which made more significant penetration of foreign markets impossible.
According to his words, local consumers show great interest in ostrich meat whose price amounts to 1,500 RSD per kilo.
