Serbian-Slovenian business club officially opens in Ljubljana – Trade between two countries exceeds EUR 1 billion

The Serbian-Slovenian business club officially started working in Slovenia on Friday, July 13, 2018. This business association will bring together the biggest regional companies which have already invested or are planning to invest in both countries, such as Fructal, Mercator, Comtrade, Delta, NLB Bank, Gorenje, MK Group and others.

The president of the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia (CCIS), Marko Cadez, pointed out that the economic cooperation between Serbia and Slovenia was balanced and at a top level, but that there was still room for growth.

– The total trade between Serbia and Slovenia has exceeded a billion euros for the first time and is recording an increase by 9.2% compared to last year. The trend of growth is obvious, and what’s important is for companies to continue to reinvest and employ. We will soon have several more Serbian investments in Slovenia, not just in tourism and the hotel business, but in the banking sector as well, and in other fields, such as IT. There is also a great interest among small and medium enterprises in both markets, so the CCIS will step up its activities in this country in order to help the economic cooperation even more – Cadez emphasized.

Ambassador of Serbia to Slovenia Zorana Vlatkovic emphasized that the support of the diplomacy to the economic cooperation between the two countries was of great importance.

– Serbian and Slovenian business people know each other very well, we have great business relations, but one of the tasks of the diplomacy is to help establish new contacts and promote our country as an excellent investment destination, which is what is being done with the establishment of one such business club – the ambassador of Serbia said.

The opening ceremony was attended by the economic adviser of the president of Serbia, Danilo Cicmil, and the first president of the Serbian-Slovenian business association is Goran Medic, the director of Fructal, which is owned by Serbia’s Nektar. The president of the club is Tomaz Kavcic, the honorary consul of Serbia and the most famous chef in Slovenia.
