– This is the first center of this kind in the whole region. Initially, the capacity will be 40 beds, and we plan to have 120 patients in in-patient care by 2020 – says Dr Vladica Stanojevic, the director of the Adult Day Care Center “Male Pcelice” in Kragujevac. The future center will operate as a working unit of this institution.
According to some estimates, there are between 5,000 and 7,000 people suffering from dementia and Alzheimer's disease in Serbia. The need for one such center is a priority, since the care for patients suffering from dementia requires full engagement of at least two members of the family.
– There's a great interest and people are calling from all parts of Serbia, but those from Sumadija and Pomoravlje will be given priority initially. The patients will be provided will full, all-day care, three meals, two snacks, medicines, clothes, professional supervision, summer and winter vacations, at half the cost of the care in, say, some private homes, not to mention the prices in Europe. In agreement with Minister Zoran Djordjevic, as everything is realized under the patronage of the Ministry of Labor, Employment, Veteran and Social Policy, the accommodation price will be around RSD 50,000 – Stanojevic says.
Around forty medical technicians and nurses will be employed at this center. In the initial phase, doctors from Male Pcelice will be taking care of the patients. The center's further development will enable the creation of new jobs. It's interesting that there are inquests from countries throughout Europe.
– In-patient care on this level and under such conditions is up to three times more expensive in Europe. We have been contacted by our people in the diaspora, but also by foreigners. At the moment, there is no legal option for treating foreigners, but are considering potential solutions for the future, primarily due to new jobs – Stanojevic told Kurir.
