Government promised to sell "Telekom" - tender or initial public offer by the end of year 2009

The Governor of the National Bank of Serbia (NBS), Radovan Jelašić, said that the Government of Serbia promised to make the decision about sale of "Telekom Serbia" by the end of the year 2009.

Jelašić said in the interview for yesterday's (February 6, 2009) issue of newspaper "24 sata" that the Government promised that in order to cover 8 billion EUR worth of current payment deficit in 2009.

- I don’t know if anything has changed, if there are some other sources of finance, but everything is possible - said the Governor.

According to the memorandum of economic and fiscal policy, which was signed between the Government of Serbia and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and published on website http://www.nbs.rs/export/internet/cirilica/, the Government intends to announce tender or initial public offer for "Telekom Serbia" in 2009.
