Commencement of construction of bridge across the Južna Morava in village of Batušinac near Merošina – road to Niš and Doljevac to be shortened by about 15 km

The first phase of construction of the bridge across the Južna Morava river in village of Batušinac, Towh Hall of Merošina, which will, as Mayor Slobodan Todorović pointed out, shorten the road from Merošina to Niš and Doljevac by about 15 km, started on February 1st and it should be finished in about 60 days. The concrete bridge 128 meters long and 8 meters wide, which should have two traffic lanes, should be completed and put in operation by the end of year 2009.

The major share of the funds for the first phase of construction, 29m RSD, was provided from NIP (20m RSD), while the Municipality of Merošina set aside 9m RSD for that purpose. Slobodan Todorović points out that the calculation of costs for the second phase of construction, which should start as soon as the first phase ends, was underway and, according to rough estimates, it should cost between 40 and 50m RSD.

- Financial structure for the second phase of construction has not been finished yet, but we hope that we will manage to complete it soon. This bridge is of great importance to the population in this region, especially because the old bridge was closed two years ago and the inhabitants of Merošina have been forced to use the bypass to reach Niš ever since. The old bridge may be disassembled and its parts may be used for construction of some other bridge – Todorović points out.

By the way, the works are being carried out by Belgrade-based company "Intermost".
