Americans plan to rent Airport Slatina in Priština on 99 years

Next to big military base "Bonstil" near Uroševac, where Army of USA built genuine fortress on several tens of hectares, Albanian sources in Priština claim that Americans intend to take over airport Priština, i.e. Slatina, in the foothill of Goleš mountain.

Runway 5 km long is made for the needs of civilian airport, whereas two transversal runways, each of them 3 km long , connect main airport to big underground hanger beneath Goleš mountain, which was the shelter of 2-3 squadrons of fighter planes MIG 21 before the war. Underground hanger survived NATO bombing that did not damage entrances to this building, which was build according to the project designed by Soviet military experts. Airport complex Slatina encompasses Goleš mountain on whose peak, on 1,119 meters above the sea level, used to stand military radar station, from which one could control entire Western Balkans and part of the Mediterranean. This radar station had been destroyed on the second day of the war, but after UN had arrived on Kosmet, the new one was installed. In 2004, USA made the decision pay fee to all owner of the land around airport, which is now used by American soldiers. Americans plan to rent the land around airport all the way to the slopes of Goleš mountain on 99 years. Serbs own over 100 hectares of land on the sections between villages Enca, Dobrinje and Vrela.

Civilian runway of Airport Slatina was expanded right after the arrival of UN mission in order to accept bigger airplanes. This is the most frequent airport in the Balkans.
