From plantations, through the buyout and the processing, to the filling lines, distribution, store shelves and juice glasses, dozens of tons of fruit are processed at Nectar each day. This has been going on for twenty years now, since the opening of the first facility.
The anniversary also brought new production lines. A modern Tetra Pak line for the production of two types of modern and innovative on-the-go portion packs has been commissioned.
Slim Leaf and Edge packs of 0.2 and 0.25 liters will be filled on this line. Thanks to its compact design, the new Tetra Pak A3/Compact Flex line provides maximum flexibility, enabling the company to rotate the production between various packs.
The investment in the new line amounted to EUR 1.5 million and is a step forward in the development of various categories of products in small packages in line with global trends, it was said during the presentation of the new line. As said, this is only one of the company's investments.
– We are the first ones to put the Slim Leaf packaging in the market. We are also the first ones to introduce the Edge packaging, which offers numerous possibilities and advantages for consumers. The new line will considerably expand the capacities and, most importantly, our range of products, so that we could meet consumers' needs and the trends towards a higher pace of living – Mihailo Jankovic, CEO of Nectar Group, says for eKapija.
The Nectar Family and Kids 100% fruit juices will be packed in this portion-sized packaging, meant to be consumed on the go.
– Nectar has been trying for 20 years now to offer new, different, innovative and, most importantly, quality products to the entire region. In our anniversary year, the focus is on further development and investments, which will progressively continue in the future as well, in line with the plans – Jankovic stated during the presentation of the new production line.
Nectar and Tetra Pak have been cooperating for 19 years now.
Penetration of eastern markets
The production at Nectar began in 1998 and, according to Jankovic, over 30 brands have been launched in the twenty years of operations, numerous products in various packages, which he says have made them a favorite brand in Serbia.
Aside from Serbia, they sell their products in the markets of the region, and each year they enter a new market. As he explains, company representatives are currently in China, where they are negotiating cooperation and penetration of eastern markets.
– The company will continue investing and developing its business, both in the country and the region and in all the countries we operate in. Investments are constant here. We plan to enter new categories, new technologies, and new production lines will bring new workers too – Jankovic explains for eKapija, without wishing to specify which investments and plans these are.
Nectar has six factories in the region, and a new line was launched at the factory in Backa Palanka. The capacity of the new line is around 9,000 pieces an hour.
Aside from this line, another six are active at the facility in Backa Palanka.
– We have a total of seven juice filling lines here, with an average capacity of around 7,000 liters an hour – Milka Tomanovic, Production Manager at Nectar, explains for our portal.
The capacity of a production line depends on the size of the packaging. For example, the line for the filling of the liter packaging has the capacity of 7,000 juices an hour, whereas the capacity of the two-liter one is 5,500 pieces an hour, our interviewee says.
– The other facility features a line for the aseptic PET packaging without preservatives, as well as for the filling of cans and glass bottles – Tomanovic adds.
Special lines for the production of fruit and vegetable concentrates, used to make juices and other Nectar products out of season, are also operating at the factory in Backa Palanka.
The production at Nectar is fully automatized and only four employees work at each line, whereas there are around 1,000 at the company. With the opening of new production lines and the penetration of new markets, new workers will need to be employed in the future, who will continue Nectar's development.
