Competition for "Sitting Green" furniture design has started

Competition in eco-furniture design, "Sitting Green" has started today, January, 20th, 2009, as it has been announced by USAID. The contest will be opened until March, 20th, 2009, and three winners will be published at the openning of Belgrade's design week, on May, 25th, 2009.
"Sitting Green" is focused on design of all kinds of chairs, benches and other piece furniture made for sitting out of wood.
The competition, which will be held within Belgrade's design week, was initiated by USAID, Project for competition development, which would invest 5.000 USD in the idustrial manufacture of each of the three winning designs. The prizes are divided in three categories - the prize for the best design, student prize for the best design and the best design for maintenable materials use.
Prototypes will be made in selected production plants in Serbia. USAID, Project for competition development will use these prototypes in order to promote their export to international customers. The production will be started no later than July, 2009.
In this moment, three manufacturers in Serbia are interested in production of the prototypes. "Nitea" company (www.nitea.co.yu), which is representative of some of the most famous names in furniture manufacture, including "Vitra" and "Herman Miler", will be representing prototypes of the winning furniture within Serbian design part at its exhibition space, which will be opened in February, 2009.
