General Motors / Opel does not want to cooperate with Zastava

American automobile manufacturer General Motors GM negated all announcements of Belgrade about signing of contract by its company, German Opel, on assembling of vehicles in Zastava factory. Spokesman of GM denied that there was any agreement and said that all stories related to that were just ordinary speculations, because General Motors did not need factory in Serbia at the moment. Namely, Astra is produced in Germany and Belgium, whereas the factories in Poland and Russian produce old model Astra Classic for regional market.

Unofficially, representatives of both Opel and Fiat are very angry because the details of some preliminary or final phases of negotiations easily appear in media, which, sometimes, leads to prolongation, or even stoppage of further talks.
