Representation of Croatian Chamber of Economy opens in Belgrade – CCIS to get Zagreb office in 2018

The representation of the Croatian Chamber of Economy (CCE) in Belgrade was reopened after five years on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, with the unveiling of the wall plate on the building in the Toplicin Venac Street.

The president of CCE in Serbia, Pero Mijakic, says that the opening of the Chamber in Belgrade will enable a better communication between the two countries' businessmen.

– With the development of economic cooperation, employment of people in Serbia and Croatia will be enabled so that they wouldn't have to go abroad to work – Mijakic says.

The presidents of the Serbian and the Croatian chambers of commerce, Marko Cadez and Luka Burilovic, highlighted the importance of a further development of the two countries' economic relations.

– It is up to us to show how important what we've done so far is. Croatian companies have invested EUR 800 million and employ 14,000 people in Serbia and the potential is far from exhausted – Cadez said.

More and more companies from Serbia are exporting to the Croatian market and investing in the country, and the opening of the Belgrade office “means that we will have everyday dynamic operations and communication” between Serbian and Croatian companies, Cadez pointed out.

Cadez announced that the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia (CCIS) will open its representation in the capital of Croatia by the end of the current year.

Burilovic said that Serbia was the sixth biggest trade partner of Croatia and that he hoped that the economic potentials of the two countries would be enhanced through the cooperation of the two chambers and businessmen from both countries. Exports from Croatia have grown by 31%, whereas imports have risen by 19%, and they are growing year after year, Burilovic said.

As for economic indicators, the total merchandise trade between Serbia and Croatia in 2017 amounted to EUR 1.027 billion, an increase by 14.2% compared to 2016.

Exports to Croatia amounted to EUR 550.7 million, an increase by 17.6% compared to 2016. Imports from Croatia increased by 10.4% compared to 2016, amounting to EUR 476.3 million, and the surplus of Serbia in last year's merchandise trade amounted to EUR 74.4 million.

According to the analyses of the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia, there are possibilities for increasing the Serbian exports, except in traditional sectors where products are already present in the Croatian market, and in the textile, plastic, furniture, mechanical, paper and dairy industries.
