Postponement of privatization of Novi Sad Trade Fair, Port of Novi Sad and "2.oktobar"

The Secretariat of Economy of Vojvodina has launched the initiative today (December 10, 2008) for exclusion of the Novi Sad TRade Fair, the Port of Novi Sad and Vršac-based company "2. oktobar" from the privatization process.

According to the Secretariat's explanation, by excluding the Novi Sad Trade Fair from the privatization process, 42% of public capital owned by the Province and 22% of stocks that will be allotted to the Province by the City of Novi Sad will remain the property of Vojvodina, which will then become the majority owner of the Trade Fair.

The request for exclusion of the Novi Sad Trade Fair has been submitted because of "the long tradition of the trade fair and its acquirement of reputation of a regional brand in the domain of international trade fair manifestations".

The Provincial Secretariat of Economy has launched the initiative for exclusion of the Port of Novi Sad from the privatization process and it suggested that the privatization of other ports should be carried out according to the special program, due to national interest and regional significance.

According to the announcement, the initiative for temporary abolishment of the privatization procedure in company "2 .oktobar" has been launched because this company deals with public utilities and its privatization should wait for the law on privatization of other public utility companies to be passed.

Final conclusion concerning the initiatives of the Provincial Secretariat of Economy should be made by the Executive Council of Vojvodina.
