– The tax aims to minimize environmental consequences of air travel, considering an increase in the use of this means of transport – said Swedish Minister for International Development Isabella Lövin, as reported by the Dagens Nyheter newspaper.
The tax of SEK 60 to 400 (EUR 5.8 to 39), depending on the destination, will be implemented for all flights from Swedish airports.
It will be paid by all passengers except for children under two, airline staff and, under certain conditions, passengers in transit at Swedish airports.
Surveys show that 53% of Swedish citizens agree that the tax should be implemented.
