Development of regional dump started in Pirot – investment worth 3.2m EUR

Development of regional dump for disposal of solid communal waste from all four municipalities in the Pirot region has started today (December 4, 2008) at the location near Pirot.

The contract worth 3.2m EUR has recently been signed by the Town Hall of Pirot, the European Agency for Reconstruction and the contractor -Austrian "Alpine".

The delegation of the European Commission and the chiefs of local self-governments of all four municipalities in the Pirot region were received today by the group of about 20 inhabitants of the nearby weekend settlement who expressed dissatisfaction because of the decision that the dump would be built at the location of Muntina Padina.

- We are going to solve that problem of the unsatisfied citizens who don’t like the idea of spending their time in the weekend cottages that are so close to the dump. I think that there will be no problems at all – said the Mayor of Pirot, Vladan Vasić, and added that the meeting with them would be held on Monday (December 8, 2008).

Vasić says that the location was chosen 10 years ago and that the total value of the project amounts to 5m EUR.

- The complete documentation has been designed according to EU standards and the funds would have not been granted to us if it had not been like that – Vasić explained.

The dump’s impact on environment has been estimated and all necessary permits have been collected. Elaboration of the project was finished three years ago.
