Works on Cortanovci tunnel begin – Russians interested in building railway to Nikola Tesla Airport

Serbian Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlovic and the president of Russian Railways, Oleg Belozyorov, marked the beginning of the works on the 2.2-km Cortanovci tunnel on March 30.

The works on this section of the Belgrade-Budapest railway, from Stara Pazova to Novi Sad, are being carried out by Russian Railways.

Mihajlovic said that Serbia had successfully cooperated with Russian Railways for a number of years.

– We will continue working on a very important project of the dispatch center, which will be located in Topcider. This is an important project, as we want the railway transport to be dominant, not just the road transport – she said.

Mihajlovic added that there was also interest in the construction of a railway to the Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport.

– That would mean a lot, as we are developing rail and road transport, and the Belgrade Airport is one of the fastest growing ones in the region – she said.

Belozyorov thanked the Government of Serbia for trusting the company and putting it in charge of the realization of big projects.

He pointed out that Russian Railways had reconstructed 200 kilometers of railways in Serbia in the previous four years and that all the projects had been finished before the deadline.

At the same time, the Memorandum on the development of the strategic partnership relations and the joint realization of infrastructural rail projects in the territory of Serbia was signed.
