Since we are not able to organize production of oilseed rape on the fields in Vojvodina, there is someone from Slovenia who is able. Slovenian company “Pinus” from Rača near Maribor, represented by Novi Sad-based company “Pinus plus”, plans to sign contract on sowing of oilseed rape in Vojvodina and Serbia on about 3,000 ha. The farmers who decide to plant this oleaceous plant, which is not so present on our fields, are promised fine profit of €200 – €250 per hectare.
Oilseed rape is needed for production of biodiesel in the units of “Pinus” in Slovenia. This is the second year in the row that the Slovenians plant oilseed rape on the fields in Vojvodina. Last year, rape was planted on only 250 ha. This year, the plans are more ambitious.
“Pinus“ guarantees price of €150 per ton of oilseed rape to each manufacturer. The deadline for sowing is September 15. “Pinus plus” provides seeds and means for protection of plants to each farmer through natural exchange. Also, the payment is guaranteed and the manufacturers will get their money within 30 days from the harvest day .
The data provided by professor Dr. Timofej Furman from the Faculty of Agriculture in Novi Sad prove that Vojvodina and Serbia have big chances for production of biodiesel. Namely, over 550,000 tons of fuel are required every year for cultivation of more than 4 million ha of land in our country, i.e. field works. In order to substitute 20% of total quantity of diesel with biodiesel, over 110,000 tons of biodiesel are required. That quantity can be produced of oilseed rape planted on about 110,000 ha, or 2.6% of our cultivated fields. These aforementioned 3,000 ha are surely good start. Of course, the farmers have to be careful what they sign and who they negotiate with, because a loan oft loses both itself and friend.
