Smart hotel offers guests self-parking slippers and intelligent furniture

One of the most modern hotels in the world is located in Yokohama, Japan. Its rooms have self-parking slippers and intelligent furniture. The ProPILOT Park Ryokan hotel features a combination of traditional hospitality with Nissan’s autonomous driving technology.

Using automotive systems the slippers “park” themselves at the entrance of the traditional inn at the push of a button, ready for guests to use upon arrival, The Independent reports.

– For cars, the technology requires a ton of processing power: In total, it requires four high-resolution cameras capable of real-time image processing and 12 sonar sensors to assess the vehicle's surroundings. After processing the collected information, the system can then safely park the vehicle by controlling the accelerator, brakes, steering and transmission – says Nick Maxfield, a Nissan spokesman.

He adds that the self-parking slippers are meant to raise awareness of automated driving technologies, and their potential, non-driving applications. When not in use, they automatically return to their designated spots at the push of a button.

The slippers are equipped with two small retractable wheels.
