ĐELIĆ: Free trade with Turkey in 2009

- The Agreement on free trade between Serbia and Turkey will be signed next year - Božidar Đelić, the Deputy Prime minister of Serbia for European Integrations, announced yesterday (November 1st, 2008). Đelić said to Agency Beta that the next round of negotiations about that agreement would take place in the first quarter of year 2009, which had resulted from the talks with Turkish officials in Istanbul.

The Deputy Prime Minister of Serbia met Turkish Prime Minister, Tajip Erdogan, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the head negotiations for admission of Turkey into EU, Ali Babajani, at the World Economy Forum.

Đelić said that they had agreed that the high delegation of Turkish Government, led by the President or Prime Minister of Turkey, should visit Serbia.

Đelić said that he had also met the representatives of the four largest Turkish companies in Istanbul: "Šabanči", "Enka", "Koč" and "Dugan".

- What is the most important in the domain of economy is to have transit across Corridor 10. We must compete to develop the corridor and to make sure that major part of Turkish transit goes across our country - said Đelić.

He said that large Turkish power companies had expressed interest in the forthcoming tenders for production of electric power, which should be announced soon by the Government of Serbia.

- There is an interest in opening and takeover of the units in the domain of bus and truck production, with the special focus on FAP from Priboj, as well as in the domain of cement and tire industry and trade - said Đelić.

The World Economy Forum in Istanbul was dedicated to the relations between Europe and central Asia.
