New toll collection system throughout EU?

The director of Hrvatski Autoputevi, Boris Huzjan, stated that the preparation of changes to the toll collection system was being carried out across the EU, Jutarnji List writes, as reported by B92.

– In the context of the development of a model of toll collection for all types of vehicles, it is important to point out that the proposition of the new directive of the European Parliament plans for the model of toll collection by road section passed, not by the period of usage, to be the only one possible – Huzjan stated.

As he says, such a system is already present in Croatia.

– As part of all the reforms being carried out here, the competent ministry has opened a public invitation for expression of interest in the preparation of a study of the development of an electronic toll collection system in Croatia – he says.

The intention, as he says, is for the current toll collection system to be upgraded, and the study will show which form of electronic toll collection system is the most suitable, taking new technologies into consideration.
