EPS to build new mini HPP in Ivanjica – Value of investment EUR 1.24 million

(MHPP Moravica to be reconstructed) A new mini hydro power plant with 670 kW of installed power, which will produce 2.23 million kWh of electrical energy a year, will start being built in 2018 as part of the complex of the old HPP on the river Moravica in Ivanjica.

Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) is the investor, and EUR 1.24 million is to be invested in the construction from the proceeds of the loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

The construction of the new HPP entails the construction of a mechanical unit with the installation of new electro-mechanical equipment.

This valuable investment also entails the demolition of the slanted concrete bridge, located in front of the newly built dam.

– The project of bridge demolition, prepared in line with the Law on Planning and Construction, is currently in the technical control phase – EPS says.

Following this, the public enterprise will file a request for a permit for the demolition with the Urban Planning Department of the Municipality of Ivanjica.

According to the plan, the construction of the new HPP, the reconstruction of the old one and the demolition of the old footbridge should start in March 2018.

Let us remind that the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Moments of Kraljevo ordered EPS to remove the concrete bridge from the reconstructed waterfall area on the river Moravica. The construction of the bridge caused negative reactions by both experts and the public, as the Moravica dam had thereby lost the unofficial title of Ivanjica's visual symbol.

The removal of massive concrete columns supporting the bridge, the removal of concrete blocks from the absorption basin and the decoration of concrete elements by paint or natural materials, so that they might fit into the natural environment of this cultural and historical area, are also required through measures of technical protection.

Regarding the reconstruction of the old HPP, the works pertain to exterior and interior walls of the mechanical unit, the canal and the securing of the stone located above the said building to the end of preventing further erosion as a consequence of the presence of underground waters.

Around EUR 150,000 will be invested in the reconstruction of the old HPP. The installed power of MHPP Moravica is 160 kW, and the expected annual production is around 1.4 million kWH of electricity.
