By the decision made by the management of company "Heineken", which bought the Pančevo brewer this spring, the operations in that brewer have been discontinued today (October 17, 2008) and 120 workers have been left without job.

According to the words of the President of Trade Union, Aleksandar Dostanić, following the closing of the unit in Pančevo's "Weifert", 120 workers will receive severance pays in amount of 330 EUR per year of work and 30% based on the collective contract.

The dismissed workers were promised that company "Heineken" would help them find new jobs.

The Pančevo Brewer was founded in 1722. It is the oldest brewer in the Balkans and it used to be known world wide for its famous "Weifert" beer. Following the privatization in 2003, the brewer was sold to Turkish "Efes".

Prior to spring 2008, the brewer's name was "Efes - Weifert", and then it was sold for the second time, to company "Heineken".

From now on, "Weifert" beer will be produced in Zaječar's brewer, which is also owned by "Heineken".
