As said in the EBRD press release, the highway is a part of the Route 6b of the All-encompassing Network of the Western Balkans and will aid the economic development. The EBRD loan will be supplemented by a loan of EUR 80 million from the European Investment Bank (EIB) and a grant of EUR 3.2 million for project preparation from the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF).
The investment will also help commercialize the road sector by introducing first steps such adequate levels of finance for road development and maintenance. At the same time, special attention will be paid to enhancing road traffic safety by the implementation of road safety reviews and inspection. Road traffic safety is a constant concern for many countries in the region, due to old road networks which require reconstruction and modernization increasingly more.
