European Commission to give 584m EUR worth of aid to Serbia

European Commission has decided to set aside 584.4m EUR for support to reforms and development in Serbia in the period between 2008 and 2010, within the scope of the pre-accession assistance program.

European Commission has adopted the plan for allotment of financial aid to the countries of the western Balkans and Turkey within the scope of the Instrument for Pre-accession Assistance (IPA) for the period between year 2008 and year 2010, in total amount of 4.471 billion EUR.

- The path towards EU is made of reforms for improvement of everyday life of citizens and fulfillment of strict criteria for admission into EU. Progress on that path requires not only political will and persistence, but also significant financial efforts - said European Enlargement Commissionaire Oli Rehn.

Within the scope of the assistance plan for 2008-2010, European Commission decided to give 359.1m EUR to Kosovo, 99.9m EUR to Montenegro, 269.9m EUR to Bosnia and Herzegovina, 451.4m EUR to Croatia, 244.3m EUR to Macedonia and 245.1m to Albania. The largest funds will be given to Turkey - 1.758 billion EUR.
