"Studio Altieri" and "Steam" signed contracts on reconstruction of four clinical centers in Serbia

Minister of Health, Tomica Milosavljević, has signed the contracts with the representatives of companies "Studio Altieri" and "Steam" on elaboration of main projects and supervision of works on reconstruction of four clinical centers in Serbia.

The main project for Clinical Hospital of Serbia will be elaborated by "Studio Altieri", while company "Steam" is going to elaborate the projects for clinical hospitals in Novi Sad, Niš and Kragujevac.

The funds for reconstruction of clinical centers, in amount of 200m EUR, have been provided through cooperation with European Investment Bank.

Minister of Health, Tomica Milosavljević, said that the reconstruction would enable transfer from the model of institutional hospital to the model that is focused on clinical and day care, as well as on one-day interventions that would reduce the number of days spent in hospital and, thus, increase the efficiency of the health care system.

According to his words, the plans should be finished by the end of year 2009 and their completion will be followed by the announcement of the international open competition for selection of contractors, which will attract both local and foreign companies. All the works should be completed prior to mid-2012.

Milosavljavić said that the elaboration of the project for development of Clinical Hospital of Serbia would take between 9 and 12 months, while the elaboration of projects for other hospitals would take somewhat less time.

The Head of the operations of European Commission in Serbia, Ferenc Simon, pointed out that European Union had been actively supporting improvement of the health care system in Serbia since year 2000 and that it had realized series of projects in association with the Ministry of Health of Serbia by providing 110m EUR for that purpose.

- Modernization of the university clinical centers in Serbia is an extension of that cooperation and it concerns not only drawing of plans, development and equipping of new buildings, but also improvement of tercial health care as a modern model that ensures higher quality of health care - said he.

- Such projects are a part of long-term changes that will improve the whole health care sector in Serbia - Simon pointed out and added that that wasn't the end of cooperation between European Commission and Ministry of Health of Serbia.
