The NBS said in its press release that, in making this decision, it was guided by the share of trading with the Republic of Turkey in Serbia’s foreign trade, and the potential for strengthening and promoting economic cooperation between the two countries in the coming period.
– The constantly rising number of Turkish citizens visiting the Republic of Serbia was also taken into account. In addition, introducing the Turkish lira in the list of currencies traded in the FX market will facilitate the business of Turkish and Serbian companies that work together, which will have a positive impact on the volume of foreign trade – says the press release by the NBS.
The central bank expects the introduction of the Turkish lira to encourage the implementation of joint economic projects between the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Turkey.
The Turkish lira will be included in the list of foreign currencies and foreign cash that banks may trade with, and in the list of foreign cash that licensed exchange dealers may buy and sell. Also, the Turkish lira will be included in the list of foreign currencies that the NBS may buy and sell in the FX market.
The Turkish currency will be placed on the exchange rate list as the “Turkish lira”, standard code TRY and numerical designation 949.
