The first branch of the sea portion of the Turkish Stream, the construction of which has been completed by Russia's Gazprom, has entered the Turkish economic zone, the company South Stream announced.

– Pioneering Spirit, the biggest construction ship in the world, marked the event by laying down pipes with Russian and Turkish flags in the sea, symbolizing the crossing of the border of the exclusive economic zone between the two states – the press release says.

Gazprom has already built 448 kilometers of the Turkish Stream.

As the South Stream says, the construction is going according to plan. Nearly a fourth of the maritime section was built in under six months.

The ship will now continue laying down pipes all the way to the Turkish coast, Sputnik reported.

Both branches of the gas pipeline will emerge from the sea not far from Kiyikoy.

The ship of the company Olsiz lays down around a fourth of a kilometer of pipes a day on average. On November 1, Olsiz set a record by laying down 5.15 kilometers in a single day.

The depth of the Black Sea on the border of the economic zone of Russia and Turkey is 2,171 meters, one of the deepest sections of the Turkish Stream.

Gazprom has been building the Turkish Stream since May. The construction of the first branch, with the capacity of 15.75 billion cubic meters should be completed by March 2018.

It is meant for deliveries to Turkey. The second branch, with the same capacity, which will be delivering gas across south and southeast Europe, should be completed in 2019.
