According to the Audit Bureau of
Circulation (ABC Serbia), about 125m EUR was spent on advertising in press in
Serbia in 2007, whereas the advertising costs in 2001 amounted to only 25m EUR,
which points to the fact that these costs grow by 25% on annual basis.
ABC implements this project in association with "Mediana", which is licensed for this type of research in seven countries in the region.
The collective report contains abundance of data that can help in decision-making process because they include socio-demographic information on the readers, readers' habits, relations with media, buyers' positions and analysis of sales. This report will be published twice a year, after the research is done.
According to unofficial information, 40% of citizens of Serbia read newspapers every day, while every second citizen reads one of the magazines once a week.
Auditing was established in 1914 in the USA as the first organized system for verification of circulation of printed media. It was introduced by the advertisers, agencies and publishers whose common interest was to determine the efficiency of the newspaper sales.
