Therapy for spinal muscular atrophy – Serbia negotiating with American medicine manufacturer

The patients most affected by the rare genetic disease spinal muscular atrophy will soon be able to be treated, the Ministry of Health announces. Based on professional criteria, it has been determined which patients are the priority for receiving the therapy.

Negotiations are in progress with a company which produces the medicine, which was registered in the EU this June, and which has proven to help patients considerably.

– What needs to be known is that we have been negotiating with producers from America since early September – Minister Zlatibor Loncar said.

He added that not only the state was involved in the negotiations, but that representatives of the association of patients and local professionals specializing in the field took part in each meeting as well.
