Negotiations about construction of oil refinery in Smederevo - investment worth 250m USD

Mayor of Smederevo, Predrag Umičević, said that the negotiations about construction of oil refinery on the bank of the Danube in the vicinity of that city were underway.

Umičević said for TV Smederevo that the refinery would be producing fuel E10 whose use is stipulated by European Union.

- Certain famous multinational company has expressed the interest in that capital project, while two foreign companies offered engagement in construction of the refinery units and necessary infrastructure in port "Smederevo" - said Umičević.

The Mayor did not want to name those companies because the negotiations are still "in the initial phase".

He, however, said that the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development would be included in the construction of oil refinery in Smederevo and added that the representatives of that finance institution had spoken to Prime Minister Mirko Cvetković few days before about financing of the construction.

- Production of fuel E10 in Serbia was not possible before - said Umičević and added that, according to the first estimates, total value of investments would be 250m USD.
