BAT opens new cigarette packing line in Vranje – Investment worth EUR 3 million

(Tour of the facility) British American Tobacco (BAT) has officially put its new packing line in Vranje into operation.

The modern facility, worth over EUR 3 million, was officially put into operation by Prime Minister Ana Brnabic, whereas the ceremony was attended by high representatives of the company Richard Widmann (CEO for Central and South Europe) and Thanos Trimis (CEO for Serbia and Montenegro), as well as numerous prominent representatives of economic and public life of Serbia, the BAT press release says.

The new, modern packing line will considerably increase the factory's capacities for production meant for export and it will also lead to new employments.

The plant in Vranje will directly increase its number of employees by 10%, whereas indirect positive effects on the employment rate in this part of Serbia will be far greater. Furthermore, the investment will have a positive impact on the foreign trade balance of the Republic of Serbia and its place in the region, especially within the CEFTA agreement, the press release adds.

Since its arrival to the Serbian market, BAT has paid more than EUR 1.7 billion to the budget of the Republic of Serbia through excise taxes and other taxes. In Serbia, BAT has directly invested EUR 220 million, of which over EUR 120 million was directly invested in the purchase and modernization of the plant in Vranje, which is now the production center for the CEFTA members, and whose products are exported to Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Macedonia, the press release says.

In May 2016, BAT opened a new cigarette plant in Vranje.
