More than 150 Turkish companies at Agrobiznis forum in Belgrade - Agreement on free trade, investments in agriculture and alignment on quotas as the main topics

The
document was signed after bilateral meeting of Nedimovic and Fakibaba,
organized on the eve of the Turkish-Serbian Agrobiznis Forum opening, attended
by more than 150 representatives of Turkish agricultural firms, as well as
sales chains, as possible purchasers of Serbian products and about 2,300
companies from Serbia.
According
to Serbian ministry, the meeting comprised three topics - existing free trade
agreement in the field of agriculture and possibilities of increasing foreign
trade, investments in livestock, fruit and vegetable growing and new adjustment
of quotas for different agricultural products for both sides. Minister
Nedimovic also talked with his Turkish counterpart about export of beef and
refined and raw sunflower oil from Serbia while the reasons for organization of
the Turkish-Serbian Agribusiness Forum were investments in the food industry.
He outlined Serbia can , in logistics sense, serve as a platform for Turkey for
EU and Russia, while Turkey is a pass for Serbia to Asia and the Middle East.
Answering journalists' questions, Nedimovic said that after eight years from
the beginning of the implementation of free trade agreement between Serbia and
Turkey, this agreement proved to be very useful, since trade between two
countries in agricultural sector has increased almost five times.
Minister Fakibaba said Serbian investors are welcome to that country.
The visit of the new Turkish Minister of Agriculture to Serbia is his first official visit abroad, which is estimated as an additional symbol of strong relations between the two countries.
In the first six months last year, total foreign trade with Turkey totaled EUR
414.4 million. Total exports in that period totaled EUR 118.4 m, while total
imports amounted to EUR 296 m.
Serbia is mainly exporting to Turkey cigarettes, food for dogs and cats, starch,
dairy products, plums, vegetable products for brooms, corn, feathers and
filling materials, frozen vegetables, sunflower seeds, fodder seed.
From Turkey, we mainly import lemons, cigarettes, tobacco, tomatoes,
grapefruit, hazelnuts, mandarins, gum bombs, jelly products, orange peel,
edible fruit seedlings.
Turkish investors are interested in investing in textile,
construction and automotive industries
There is a large number of potential Turkish businessmen who are interested in
investing in greenfield and brownfield investments in Serbia, but it is
necessary to redefine overall economic relations with Turkey, the President of
the Turkish-Serbian Business Council, Aleksandar Mededovic, said.
- Turkish businessmen from textile, construction and automotive industry are
interested in opening facilities in Serbia – Međedovic said at the Agricultural
Forum Serbia-Turkey in Belgrade.
