Croatia reduces fruit and vegetable control fee

The Ministry of Agriculture of Croatia today amended the regulations on inspection supervision and control of harmonization of fruit and vegetables with market standards, thereby bringing the fee for phytosanitary control of the import of those goods back to the previous amount of HRK 90, i.e. EUR 12.

The previous amendment increased the fee 22 times to HRK 2,000, i.e EUR 270, causing dissatisfaction among the countries of the region which export large amounts of fruit and vegetables to Croatia.

The fee is paid for each individual type of fruit and vegetable within a single control carried out by the agricultural and phytosanitary inspection, and the new regulations will be published tomorrow, on August 11, 2017.

The press release by the ministry says that an agreement has been reached with the said states to have the trade blockage removed beginning with the aforementioned date.

Furthermore, the ministry will analyze, in cooperation with those states, the height of the fees of inspection supervision in the area in order to secure consumer protection and competitiveness of agriculturists in a way that won't interfere with the trade.
