Belgrade-Novi Sad highway to be completed until 2008, complete route under video surveillance

Completing of the highway from Novi Sad to Belgrade will cost 257 million EUR, 120 million EUR of which are provided from the credit of the European Investment Bank (EIB), 72 milion EUR are provided from the loan of the European Bank for Rehabilitation and Development (EBRD), whereas remaining 65 million EUR are provided by Serbia. The entire job, including, of course, construction of new bridge on the Danube near Beška, should be completed in 2008. The highway lanes will be supervised by means of video surveillance systems for the sake of better traffic control.
The money from the credit approved by EBRD will be spent on rehabilitation of existing right lane from Novi Sad to Belgrade. Also, from the credit of this bank, 52 million EUR will be invested in construction of new bridge on the Danube. The money from the credit approved by EIB will be used for continuation of the works on construction of the left lane from Novi Sad to Beška. That route is being cleaned at the moment.
The works carried out be previous contractor, Consortium RAST, have been checked. The construction of this section of road costs 900 million CSD.
Rest of the money from the credit of EIB will be spent on construction of 7 cloverleaves along the highway, as well as on construction of lane in the zone of Novi Sad. The highway section 9 km long in the zone of Novi Sad will be relocated.
The tender for cloverleaves and construction of highway in the zone of Novi Sad will be announced in the second half of September. The works will start in 2006 and they will be completed in 2007. Also, rehabilitation of the existing bridge on the Danube will be financed from the credit of EIB.
