Bracelet keeping drivers awake

A new bracelet called Steer is designed so as not to let drivers fall asleep behind the wheel, will cost USD 100 and will become available this November.

Steer remains unnoticed until the driver gets sleepy, which is determined by 16 sensors constantly monitoring the heart rate and the skin conductance.

The device then compares the results with normal parameters and, if it detects a lowered heart rate, warns the driver by vibrating and activating a yellow light.

If the heart rate continues dropping despite the warning, the device concludes that the driver is about to fall asleep and shakes them up by an electric shock.

The resulting increased levels of serotonin, cortisol and other hormones wake the driver up and return the heart rate back to normal.

However, if any of this occurs, it's a clear sign that the driver needs rest, as the bracelet merely “buys” time for making a safe stop.
