Danube Public Bath Belgrade to become international cultural center?

Assistant to the Minister of Culture and Information for contemporary art Ivana Dedic and the director of the Astrup Fearnley Museum in Oslo, Gunnar Kvaran, visited the former Danube Public Bath premises, which have been slated for a renovation and turning into an international cultural center for a long time, on Friday, July 14, 2017.

Dedic stated that the Ministry of Culture and Information had been considering turning the former public bath, built in 1901, into a place for cultural events, to which end, as Dedic says, the Ministry has contacted various embassies, as the idea is to turn the building into an international cultural center.

– So far, the premises have been visited by the embassies of Austria, France, Turkey and Iran, and Gunnar Kvaran was able to visit Belgrade, so we used the opportunity to show him the premises, as this is indeed a good place for a big and beautiful cultural institution – Dedic stated.

Kvaran said that the idea to turn the former public bath into a cultural center was great, but that the building was in a very bad state and that its restoration would be a very big project.

– This would require an extraordinary architect, who could transform this building into a cultural center – Kvaran said.

The former Danube Public Bath has an area of 3,500 square meters.
