European Commission to impose antidumping measures against Zelezara Smederevo?

The European Commission intends to undertake penalty measures against the Chinese company Hesteel Serbia, but also against the state of Serbia, over violating the EU antidumping measures, Danas learns in the diplomatic circles of the leading EU countries.

As the newspaper's sources claim, the Government of Serbia is managing to prevent this from happening through certain maneuvers for the time being, but not even close ties with Berlin can compensate for violating the EU norms in the long term.

– There is reasonable doubt that the Chinese are circumventing the antidumping measures through its daughter company in Serbia. In other words, the relevant European Commission authorities are convinced that Hesteel is using its company in Serbia to “repackage” products made in China. The management of Hesteel boasts about fantastic results achieved practically overnight. However, the huge growth of the production and export of their steel mill in Smederevo coincides with a drop in exports from China due to the European antidumping measures. This is causing great suspicion in Brussels for a reason – the source of Danas says and points out that there are indications that Hesteel merges the sheet metal produced in China with that from Zelezara Smederevo and sells it as its own product.
